I've just now begun to notice the way you sneakily use photos in your images. It's so seamless though!

So when you say "clean up the sketch lines," are you using an eraser, painting over the lines in a new layer or what? I can never get my art to look "painted" like this without obvious lineart

You just paint over the lines in the original layer.

I really like the idea of this drawing; it's very nice. I did my very first computer drawing following the dragon's eye tutorial (and realized it was really hard!!). Would you be so kind as to telling me what you think about it?
Here its is: [link]

Thanks!

what color are you using to paint in the mountains? A shade of black? or a tint of blue or green?

So, that's how lineart disappears? You can paint over it in the same layer OR save it in another one and paint in a new layer over it, so the sketch will little by little disappear as the whole picture blends with everything else... :O

This is so helpful at so many levels! Thanks for taking the time to do this tutorials

I noticed that your background layer was the complete base colors of the whole image, do you merge layers constantly?

I'm curious, how do you go about choosing colors for the details in the BG? Do you draw colors that you've already blocked out? (then again, I don't know what colors you used for that either. Just a slightly darker color than the original gradient I'm assuming.)

very nice tutorial!

*le sigh*

Ahhh... the ever important patience. I'm still working on that one :3

For the time being I can't afford CS, so I'm using PSE7 that comes with the Intuos4. I'd use gimp.. but it's exceedingly glitchy with this new tablet.

So you basically paing *over* the lineart, not on a separate layer (I hope you back it up before paiting!) that's interesting
Reply
:iconsandara:
sandara Featured By Owner Jun 4, 2009
you can always paint on a new layer that is above your lineart, if you want to reference back to them later.

That's what I usually do, I was surprised to know that you painted over the lineart instead ;-)

Do you paint on the same layer as the lines?
Reply
:iconsandara:
sandara Featured By Owner Jun 4, 2009
i usually do, but it's up to individual preference. making another normal layer on top of the lineart and painting on that will have no difference. (other than the fact that you still have your lineart below, safe and snug )
